British students turning to US Ivy League universities
Harvard University, ranked the best in the world – has seen the number of applications from Britain rise by more than a third in just 12 months, figures show.
Other elite Ivy League institutions, including Yale, Columbia and Cornell, have also reported an increase in demand.
It is believed that the cap on places for home students at English universities – coupled with the prospect of £9,000 fees from next year – is fuelling the rise.

The Ivy League's big loss
[[posterous-content:pid___0]]Looking for a top notice education. Well check out what one student had on his mind when getting into a Ivy league school.
Throughout the spring, Gary was being recruited by a handful of different schools for either football or track. Carroll College, South Dakota School of Mines and Idaho State all offered scholarships in one form or another. Cornell accepted his application, but would only give him $58,000 in scholarship money, barely enough for one year, according to the school’s website, so that was out. He had a full ride academically to the University of Wyoming, but they don’t have a medical school, so they were moved down on the list.
Gary still had his hopes up for Brown.
