Yale delegation visits House of Commons to showcase innovative collaboration

n the heels of President Obama's recent visit to London, where he pledged to improve research links with the United Kingdom, a delegation from Yale School of Medicine, led by Dean Robert Alpern, joined leaders from University College London (UCL) at the House of Commons on June 27 to raise awareness of the Yale-UCL Collaborative, a novel research model and an example of a successful transatlantic collaboration.

The innovative alliance was formed between Yale and UCL to improve global health through scientific research, and clinical and educational collaboration. George Freeman, a newly elected member of Parliament, and Malcolm Grant, UCL president and provost, hosted the event, which also included government ministers, members of Parliament and peers.

Students are turning to the U. S. to acquire a degree from one of our Ivy league schools. See why the British are coming to America to gain their degrees.

Harvard University, ranked the best in the world – has seen the number of applications from Britain rise by more than a third in just 12 months, figures show.

Other elite Ivy League institutions, including Yale, Columbia and Cornell, have also reported an increase in demand.

It is believed that the cap on places for home students at English universities – coupled with the prospect of £9,000 fees from next year – is fuelling the rise.

Throughout the spring, Gary was being recruited by a handful of different schools for either football or track. Carroll College, South Dakota School of Mines and Idaho State all offered scholarships in one form or another. Cornell accepted his application, but would only give him $58,000 in scholarship money, barely enough for one year, according to the school’s website, so that was out. He had a full ride academically to the University of Wyoming, but they don’t have a medical school, so they were moved down on the list.

Gary still had his hopes up for Brown.
