Princeton, Harvard, Williams Top U.S. News Best Colleges Rankings

Would you like to know which school took the lead in the 28th edition of college rankings.

Princeton University tied Harvard University as the top-ranked National University in U.S.News & World Report's 2012 rankings of Best Colleges. Last year, Harvard stood alone as the best ranked National University, a category that encompasses large, research-oriented schools.

No changes took place at the very top of the rankings of National Liberal Arts Colleges—schools that emphasize undergraduate education and award at least half of their degrees in liberal arts fields—as Williams College once again edged Amherst College for the highest rank.

As we enter September, many of our global readers are currently asking poignant questions concerning the complexities of an MBA education as a strategic tactic to career management. Although an excellent gambit in career change you don’t need an iPhone nor do you need to contemplate joining an American baseball team fighting it out for the World Series. Americans may be passionate about baseball, but they are equally passionate about their career success. Clearly passion and success are not exclusives to the USA. Everyone wants to foster his or her careers to maximize opportunity.

This summer, I visited many of the major Ivy League campuses and attended information sessions at the undergrad and grad levels. The audiences were not strictly American. In fact, they were quite cosmopolitan in their make-up. Some of the best info sessions were held at Yale, Princeton, and Dartmouth.

In what could be a watershed moment for online education, Dartmouth College has announced it will combine professors from its highly rated Tuck School of Business (ranked 7th by U.S. News) and its Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice to launch a new, mostly online, master's program designed to prepare mid-career healthcare leaders for the future of their profession. With more provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act going into effect this month, the burden of ensuring effective reform has been passed from legislators to healthcare executives. Dartmouth's program aims to help health professionals be ready for whatever may be on the industry's horizon. The 18-month Master of Healthcare Delivery Science program will launch next July. "We don't know how the entire industry is going to reorganize," says Robert Hansen, senior associate dean and professor at Tuck. "All we can do is prepare them for change."
